Los Andes: Authentic Adventure

Duration

5 to 7 days

Location

Las Loicas, The Andes, Argentina

Season

December to February

An unforgettable adventure

Crossing the Andes on horseback is an unforgettable and popular adventure in Argentina.

Gaucho Argentino offers a unique program: small groups that experience an authentic cultural exchange with the isolated gaucho families that call this rugged area home for the few months of the year it is without snow.

Follow the trail of Chilean and Argentine smugglers, cross rivers, stand at the border with Chile, travel on the crests of mountains overlooking beautiful valleys, warm yourself at a natural hot spring – this adventure is offered December through February, in the Andes west of Malargüe.

Excellent Service in the mountains

After a warm breakfast, your day will consist of approximately 5 or 6 hours of riding with a mid-ride break for lunch, followed by a hearty and delicious dinner with fine Argentine wines.

Riding through spectacular scenery on steady, well-trained mountain horses, you will feel the magic of the mountains and come to understand why they hold such mythical power in the stories of the region. Our 5-or-7 night itineraries provide you with first hand experience of a remote way of life that has not changed for hundreds of years.

How to get here

Our adventure begins in Las Loicas, a very small village nestled in the Andes one hour west of Malargüe. We will meet you in Malargüe whether you choose to drive or take the bus. Though it is possible to drive to Malargüe from Buenos Aires in approximately 12 hours, we recommend that you fly to Mendoza and rent a car for the 4.5-hour drive or ride the bus. We have a travel agent that can help you with arrangements.
